A Milwaukee Small Business Website Checklist

Hardly any of this is about looks. It is whether a stranger can tell you know their kind of house, and what it runs.

Say how far out of the county you go

Serving Milwaukee tells nobody anything. The county runs from Bayside down to Oak Creek, and somebody in Franklin has no idea whether a crew photographed in the Third Ward will drive south.

Write the line the way you dispatch it. Inside the county daily. Waukesha on scheduled days. Anything past that by quote. It reads as refusing work and mostly it removes calls you would have declined.

Say that you know cream city brick

The pale brick this city is built from is softer than most, and it does not take modern hard mortar well. Repointing it wrong causes damage that shows up years later.

If you know that, say it plainly on the page. It is the single clearest signal to a Milwaukee homeowner that you are not a crew passing through.

Talk about the porch permit

Porches here are structural, exposed, and regulated, and replacing one is not the weekend job people assume when they start pricing it.

Say what needs a permit, what the inspection looks for, and roughly what it costs. That paragraph closes jobs on its own.

Explain the lead lateral situation

A great many streets here still have lead service lines, and homeowners are being told about it with very little explanation of what happens next.

If you do that work, lay out what gets replaced, who is responsible for which section, and what the disruption looks like. Almost nobody has written that page clearly.

Say what happens before the first real snow

Lake-effect snow arrives fast and ice dams find every weak spot on a low-pitch roof. Gutters that were fine in September fail in the first thaw.

Put that work at the top of the page in October rather than reacting in January. People search for it the week it happens.

Put the certification number in the footer

Wisconsin certifies dwelling contractors and the city licenses the trades, and customers here check before letting somebody onto a hundred-year-old roof.

Footer of every page rather than an about page nobody opens. It is the cheapest way to separate a real tuckpointing and masonry outfit from the outfit that only works the western suburbs.

Photograph houses that look like theirs

A stock kitchen says nothing. Repointing on a cream city brick duplex in Riverwest, with the colour match visible in the after shot, tells a homeowner you have done their exact job.

Phone photographs are fine. Work around a lake-effect winter rather than against it, and keep the frames that show failing chimneys finished rather than halfway apart.

Put a figure next to each service

Leaving the price off reads as expensive. A floor, a range, what failing chimney usually runs, or a flat inspection fee gives somebody enough to act on.

Publish a band and the phone rings less and converts more, because whoever calls about a failing chimney has already accepted roughly what it costs.

Keep the listing and the site telling one story

Hours, coverage, categories, and phone number have to agree between the map listing and the site. Where they conflict, somebody in Bay View believes the listing.

Check it after snow weeks and during festival season, when your hours are nothing like the printed ones.
